The first burials in Bourke occurred in 1862. While the cemetery was not dedicated until 1879 records and headstones indicate that there were burials in the Bourke cemetery much earlier than this. Join Paul as he details the lives of some of the characters buried in the Bourke cemetery. In 1993 Professor Fred Hollows, the Eye Surgeon known world wide for his determination to restore the sight of people going blind, was buried in Bourke. His Motto: “That all the World may see” echoes the mate-ship ethic Henry Lawson celebrated a century earlier as the true spirit of the bush.

Tour duration: Approx 1 hour.

Instructions: Meet at the gate of the cemetery. Plenty of parking outside.

Cost: Free entry.
